Jonny Bairstow has broken his lengthy silence on his controversial stumping during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s and accused Australia of gamesmanship when taking contentious catches in the drawn series tantan
Bairstow was at the centre of the incident which ignited the Ashes, when Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey opportunistically stumped the England batsman after he had stepped out of his crease at the end of an over tantan
The umpire had not called “over” and so Bairstow was given out by the rules of the game tantan
But England accused their rivals of failing to play within the spirit of cricket, and captain Ben Stokes later said that he would have retracted the appeal had he been in the position of his counterpart, Pat Cummins tantan
On reflection, Carey later said he had no regrets over the incident and would do it again tantan

”But speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Bairstow said he was not “fair game” as he was not trying to gain an advantage by stepping out of his crease tantan
“If you’re starting out of your crease, you’re trying to gain an advantage,” he said tantan
“If you start in your crease, and not trying to take a run, and you finish in your crease tantan

In interviews for The Grade Cricketer, Mitchell Marsh and Usman Khawaja claimed some of Bairstow’s England teammates were laughing with Australia’s players as Bairstow refused to eat lunch after the incident tantan
And Marnus Labuschagne described a “steaming” Bairstow in the dining room after the stumping tantan
He recalled: “The Sky crew (broadcasters) knew that Jonny was in there, and they just replayed it on the screen tantan
And, as you do, everyone’s watching tantan
Obviously, seeing us all watch, he’s like, ‘Are you guys happy with that?’“David Warner is spitting out his chicken, and goes, ‘Yeah, very’ tantan

The start of the new Formula E campaign came to a dramatic halt on Tuesday, as preseason testing was interrupted by a fire breaking out in a team garage - with the knock-on effect now spilling into a second day of track driving tantan
Ahead of Season 10's opening race in Mexico City, teams and drivers are in Valencia, Spain gathering data and taking practice runs - or were, until the incident tantan
Crews on the ground and around the pit lane where the fire broke out ran out from inside the garage with thick smoke immediately billowing out, before a mass evacuation was quickly ordered and fire crews attended the scene tantan
One person was taken for precautionary medical attention and later released tantan
Action was duly cancelled for the day while an investigation took place and the garages underwent a clean-up, but an updated Formula E statement has confirmed that preseason testing will again not be on the agenda for the entirety of Wednesday, with hopes to resume the following day tantan
“In response to an incident on Tuesday at Formula E pre-season testing in Valencia when a fire caused damage to a garage in the pit lane, on-track testing activity will not go ahead on Wednesday,” the statement read tantan
“Damage from the incident was contained following the activation of emergency procedures tantan
One person was taken to hospital as a precaution but released without treatment tantan
“An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, but has already identified an issue which is being addressed tantan
The investigation and further safety assessments will be completed and we aim to resume on-track activities from Thursday, subject to final confirmation tantan
”Earlier on Tuesday, the initial statement from FE read: "In a break tantan between practice sessions, a fire was detected in the pit lane and garage area which has been contained tantan
“The on-track Incident Response Team acted immediately to contain the incident while the main pit building and garages were quickly evacuated tantan
“One person has been assessed by medics and has been transported to hospital for precautionary checks tantan
Formula E, the FIA and local fire authorities are investigating the cause tantan
The FIA have advised Formula E and all teams that on-track activities have been cancelled for the rest of the day tantan
This will allow for the area to return to safe working conditions tantan
Further updates will be shared in due course tantan
”Testing is due to run for the remainder of the week, with several new or returning drivers on the grid this year - including Nyck de Vries, who departed Formula One team AlphaTauri three months ago tantan
